หญิงชราคนหนึ่งพูดขึ้นว่า "รู้ไหม ฉันเริ่มหลง ๆ ลืม ๆ มากขึ้นทุกที เมื่อเช้านี้ฉันยืนอยู่บนบันได แล้วก็จำไม่ได้ว่าฉันเพิ่งขึ้นมาข้างบนหรือกำลังจะลงไปข้างล่าง"

One lady says, "You know, I'm getting really forgetful. This morning, I was standing at the top of the stairs, and I couldn't remember whether I had just come up or was about to go down."

หญิงชราคนที่สองตอบว่า "เธอว่านั่นแย่แล้วหรือ? วันก่อนฉันนั่งที่ขอบเตียง แล้วก็จำไม่ได้ว่ากำลังจะนอนหรือเพิ่งตื่น!"

The second lady says, "You think that's bad? The other day, I was sitting on the edge of my bed, and I couldn't remember whether I was going to sleep or had just woken up!"

The third lady smiles smugly.

"แต่ความจำฉันยังดีไม่มีผิดเพี้ยน ก๊อก ๆๆ" เธอกล่าวพลางเคาะโต๊ะ

"Well, my memory is just as good as it's always been, knock on wood", she says as she raps on the table.

แล้วเธอก็ถามด้วยสีหน้าหวาดผวาว่า "นั่นใครน่ะ?"

Then with a startled look on her face, she asks, "Who's there?"
